Why should I do it?

“Doing CBM this summer was absolutely the best thing I could have done with my life. I don’t know why nobody told me about this before.”  – Steven, age 14

“The internship literally redirected my life. I went from seeing MY world around ME to seeing the world through God’s eyes. Lost people unaware of their sins, with Satan on one side causing harm and God offering His gift of salvation for people to accept. It was so cool being able to see the world like that, then stepping into the middle and pointing kids to Christ.”  – Caleb, age 17

Why Interns say our program is so hype:

  • This is REAL work for the Christ. He can use you to take something broken (people) and it fixed. You are far more than just some intern.
  • The PAY. Although this is a paid internship, we’re talking the eternal reward. There is no greater privilege than being used to win lost souls.
  • “He commanded them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” (Mark 16:15) Why not get training while you’re at it?
  • IMPACTING people for life. By allowing God to use you, you can help save real people from a real sin problem. God could be using you to transform a would-be serial killer into a pastor. You never know.
  • Your SKILLS can be used like never before. The role of an SMI isn’t just for aspiring missionaries or pastors. Anyone with any skill will have something unique for the team. If you’re uncertain, the Lord is the giver of all gifts and knows how you can use them.
  • REVIVAL. In addition to impacting others, being an SMI will change you. Interns who’ve completed the summer program have testified their passion for Christ-like servant evangelism continuing for months, years, and sometimes the rest of their lives.

The answer to the question: “Why should I be an SMI?” Because saving lives and being transformed by God is totally worth it.

How do I apply?

A More Detailed Breakdown

The 3 stages of SMI work

STAGE 1: Training

  • Given by CBM full-time missionaries.
  • Provides detailed preparation for the remaining three internship stages.
  • Some examples of the material:
    • Sharing the gospel with the unsaved through three main points
      • God’s love for the person
      • The person’s sin, a problem that separates them from God and heaven
      • God’s solution to the problem: Jesus – taking the person’s punishment as His own
    • Being teachable and growing in the Lord as you teach others
    • Helping the saved child grow in their walk
    • How to teach an effective Bible story that incorporates the Bible and captivates children
    • Using the Wordless Book
    • How to incorporate the gospel in daily conversation
  • Includes 2 long Saturday sessions, a week of smaller sessions, and an intense week-long training retreat
  • Use this time to finish raising your monetary support from family, friends, and churches. Each intern needs to raise about $2,000, part of which goes to your salary and the rest is used to support your ministry (i.e. teaching supplies, fuel, cost of the training retreat, etc.)

STAGE 2: Bible Clubs

  • Assigned to a small team of 2-3 Interns for the week, including one experienced Intern.
  • Teach 2-5 clubs per week.
  • A club is held by a host/hostess who provides the club location for children in his/her neighborhood, daycare, church, or summer camp.
  • Each club is 1 hour long and lasts 5 days.
  • Can teach from 2-100 children per club, depending on location.
  • Form relationships with the children over the week, befriend them, and set an example for them to look up to.
  • Play games, sing songs, and share two thrilling stories per day – one Bible story that teaches applicable truth and incorporates the gospel, and one missions story for already saved children to apply.
  • Each club incorporates plenty of time for any child to ask you or your teammate(s) for one-on-one counseling on how to invite Jesus into their lives.

STAGE 3: Summer Camp

  • Serve as a Counselor in Training, Buddy Counselor, or Junior Counselor.
  • Get assigned a specific cabin to work with.
  • One cabin will house up to 16 children of a given age group and gender and consists of 3-5 counselors.
  • Your job as a counselor to these children is to be a leader, best friend, and spiritual mentor for the week.
  • Use fun in sports, crafts, swimming, stories, fishing, and more to spark a spiritual revival in many and help all gain better understanding of their Lord.

When you chose to give Him time from your summer, it may be a sacrifice for you, but it yields an eternal reward for others and personal satisfaction that no words can describe….
