Children's Bible Ministry is a
national, Bible-based ministry established in 1935. CBM's goals are
evangelism, discipleship and cooperating with local churches for
follow-up. |
According to an article in World Magazine, release time is producing good results in public schools. Release time is held during the school day, for one school period a week. Since release time occurs with parent’s permission, off of school grounds, it does not conflict with separation of church and state laws. Five states have specific release time laws but two thirds of the states have release time to some extent. Maryland is not one of them. Release time is not new. It began in 1914 and is legal in every state in the union. In 1952 the constitutionality of release time was tested in the Supreme court case of Zorach vs. Clausen (343 U.S. 306). The court said, “When the state encourages religious authorities by adjusting the schedule of public events to sectarian needs, it follows the best of our traditions, for it then respects the religious nature of our people and accommodates the public service to their spiritual needs. To hold that it may not, would be to find in the constitution a requirement that the government show a callous indifference to religious groups. That would be preferring those who have no religion to those who do.” We are asking God to give CBM favor with school officials, parents and children. We are asking God to open the door for release time for Maryland’s public school children. Our first target is Baltimore City but our goal is for the entire state of Maryland to have release time. Please help CBM identify principals of Baltimore schools who may be Christians or hold to Christian beliefs. Please get involved! Pray! Pray! Pray!
Full time missionaries are needed immediately for Baltimore, Carroll, and Howard Counties. Perhaps you have sensed God’s call on your life for full time missions but haven’t yet made the move to get started. Maybe you have served in missions in the past and feel God’s urging to begin again. Or, you are a volunteer who would like to devote yourself to reaching children for Christ full time. Children’s work is the most fruitful ministry of all. At least 85% of all those who come to faith in Christ do so by age fourteen. If you are a born again Christian that is in agreement with CBM’s statement of faith and if you have a burden for children, this may be your opportunity. CBM missionaries teach children in Bible clubs and camp. They recruit and train volunteer adults and teens to serve God among the children. CBM missionaries serve either in the area where they live or where they have a burden. If you do not live in one of the areas mentioned but have a burden for that area, call and see if a ministry is planned for your area. A salary is paid. Support is raised by deputation. Christian men, women and teens, age 16 and up are still needed for camp. Counselors, lifeguards, sports directors and cooks all serve together to give the boys and girls the time of their life. Call 410-796-7990 for an application.
